Supporting Those Who have Served

Our beneficiaries are at the heart of everything we do.

Since 2012, True Heroes Racing has profoundly impacted the lives of its beneficiaries, creating opportunities for them to rebuild their confidence, engage with like-minded people and provide them with a renewed sense of purpose. Driven by a mission to empower individuals and support them through their own journey, be that transition out of the UK military or life in the civilian world. These journeys encompass a mix of physical and mental challenges, often highlighting to them and the wider audience the strength and resilience of those we support. True Heroes Racing takes immense pride in its efforts and remains steadfast in its commitment to assist even more people in the future.

Al – RAF Veteran

After serving in the RAF since July 1984 and completing my racing career, I joined True Heroes Racing in 2018. Staying connected to the world of racing was important to me, and the fact that the team shares a military background made it the perfect fit. Having served in Bosnia, I experienced PTSD, and being part of this team has been transformative. It brings back the camaraderie, banter, and unwavering support that I missed outside of my regular job.
True Heroes Racing isn’t just a team; it’s a family beyond the military. The support you feel during race weekends is incredible, but it’s the network and connections beyond the track that are truly invaluable. I look forward to every race weekend with the excitement of a child at Christmas. This team has given me so much—they’re my second family, and I’ll always be grateful for them.

Nathan – British Army Veteran

I joined the British Army in 2006, serving as a Royal Logistics Corps Ammunition Technician, but my journey was cut short when I was medically discharged in 2007 due to a knee injury. Life after the Army was incredibly difficult—I felt completely adrift, moving between jobs and struggling with my mental health. It took me years to seek the help I needed.
Things started to turn around when I joined True Heroes Racing in 2021. Through the team, I learned how to fix a bike and began to rebuild myself. Their support was invaluable—they even helped me secure a job with one of the sponsors, which was a brilliant opportunity. Although I was later made redundant, the confidence I gained through the team inspired me to pursue new roles and believe in my own abilities.
Even today, the team continues to mean so much to me. They’ve been a constant source of support, helping me find purpose, resilience, and a sense of belonging that I’ll always cherish.

William – Britsh Army Veteran

After 11 years of service in the Army, I’m navigating the challenges of adjusting to life outside the military—something many of us face. Joining the True Heroes Racing Team has been a game-changer, offering me a renewed sense of purpose and a goal to strive towards. It’s been incredible to collaborate with fellow veterans from the forces community and share the sheer joy of racing together.

Adam – Royal Navy Veteran

I served in the Royal Navy for 14.5 years before being medically discharged in 2015. During my time, I worked on Sea Harriers, RAF Harriers, and Commando helicopters. I was part of the True Heroes Racing team from its inception in 2012, contributing for three years before moving abroad due to work commitments. Though I continued to follow the team’s progress from afar, I deeply missed being involved and the camaraderie of the military environment. In 2022, I rejoined the team, and it has been an incredibly rewarding decision—I’ve never looked back since.

Kenny – RAF Aircarft Technician – still serving

Described as a very proud Scotsman and motorcycle racing fanatic. I am an aircraft technician (mechanical) based in Lossiemouth and have been in the RAF for just over 7 years. A short but successful club racer for 4 years and now immensely proud and delighted to be a part of the True Heroes Racing team competing in the BMW F900 Cup in the British Superbikes Championship. Determined to always do my best and deliver results as well as motivate those around me and help reward the wounded, sick and injured colleagues/veterans in the team. I am really looking forward to the camaraderie and being part of this amazing team.

Joe – British Army Veteran

i was a sniper in the British Army for 12 years. I had many operational experiences from Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Bosnia, Sierra Leone, Falklands and Iraq. Good times and bad it was the military that felt like home. True Hero’s Racing team is exactly that…. HOME. It brings the military banter back and the friendships that will never leave. I have been privileged to be part of True hero’s for 3 years and for me it feels like my safe place to do what I love around the bikes as a mechanic but also for the friendships of which I have made for life. Everyone does what they can when they can for what ever reason and we all do it for each other. It’s a brotherhood both male and female and a bond for life.

Phil H – Royal Navy Aircraft Engineer

I spent 23 years in the Royal Navy, working on Commando helicopters and Sea Harriers. After leaving the military, I transitioned into a similar environment, but it just wasn’t the same. Being part of the True Heroes Racing team has brought back what I missed most—the banter, the structure, and the sense of community. I value being surrounded by like-minded people who share the same outlook and don’t take offense. It’s a team where camaraderie thrives, and I’m proud to be a part of it.

Jules – British Army Veteran

I have now been with True Heroes Racing since 2019 as a Mechanic helping with the bikes and the running of the garage. I get so much out of being part of this organisation, we are all part of the team for different reasons and nobody judges you and always there to help and be supportive of others in the hour of need ( there has been plenty ) I also work as a HGV Driver working 4 days on and 4 off so try to commit my spare as much as possible taking annual leave where needed to help the garage to run as smoothly as possible which is sometime very challenging if you do not have enough volunteers for the weekends. I have made many friends who really understand me as everyone struggles with different aspects of life.

Jayne

Looks after the shop

I met the team in July 2021 when I went to my first ever bike race meeting, the World Superbikes at Donington Park.  I took a young bike mad relative with me who unfortunately has mobility issues. He has his own story to tell, but suffice is to say we have been supporters of the team ever since.

Rather surprisingly, my background is not in retail, or the military, but in education. I often worked closely with disaffected students, those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, and their families.  Finding a way to motivate students, to encourage them to engage with education and agencies offering support was often challenging.  True Heroes have overcome this problem using the sport of motorcycle racing.   The atmosphere and camaraderie in the awning provides a safe, non-judgemental space for problems to be shared and discussed.  Finding someone who knows exactly what you are feeling and experiencing and can offer advice and support in an informal setting makes it so much easier to ask for, and accept, help. The race meetings provide a structure, something to look forward to, a reason to keep going, to push to overcome difficulties and succeed, not to mention the thrill and excitement of the racing itself.

Whilst the focus of this team is on supporting wounded sick and injured military personnel and veterans, beneficiaries are also an inspiration to anyone who is struggling with their physical or mental health.

I have learned a lot about myself during my time with the team, discovering skills I didn’t know I had and learning new ones too.  I consider myself fortunate to have met the team and it is my privilege to be a volunteer.

Sam

Feeds the Team

I love being part of the True Heroes Racing family, my husband gets so much out of being part of the team which gives us support whenever needed on and off the circuit. I also help out with the catering for the Team, it’s hard work but very rewarding.

I also work full time in the travel industry, so fitting in the racing and work can be very challenging however, with a bit of juggling and using some of my annual leave so I am able to support the team is worth it and I wouldn’t have it any other way !! We have both made lifelong true friends while being part of a very worth while cause which is very close to our hearts.

Jim

Preps the riders

Jim currently works as the rider manager with both Rapid Honda and True Heroes Racing, supporting the riders on and off track. He gained extensive experience in the British Superbike Class supporting Franco Bourne and Tom Ward before linking up with True Hero’s during the later part of the 2024 season.

His main role within race weekends is to prepare the riders and their equipment before sessions, specifically supporting the riders in warming up and mentally preparing for races. Post race he then provides any support that is required to increase performance for the next session.

His background is within performance and cognitive psychology, working with riders to increase their mental working ability, cognitive reactions, and capacity to process feedback both on and off track.

Jim is also a director at a UK Fitness centre in Grantham, providing off track fitness support and recovery to the riders at both Rapid Honda and True Heroes Racing.
